It can be hard to choose the best ebook reader for yourself when the market is growing almost daily. With new readers coming out in all different sizes and supporting all different kinds of files, knowing which one suits you best may require you to do a little research. But not always about the reader, it is also important to decide what exactly it is you want from an ereader. While it is easy to get lost in the advertisements that tell you all the great things a reader can do, you could still end up getting one that just doesn’t work for you.

The most important thing you can do to narrow down the choices is to set a budget. You are going to be spending at least a couple hundred dollars even on the cheapest of ereaders. But if your budget allows, you can spend upwards of $1,000. Don’t always let the features decide which ereader you buy, that is a good way to spend a lot more and end up with a product you aren’t happy with. Make a budget and stick to it. There are great ereaders in any price range.

A major factor in buying the best ebook reader for you is deciding where you plan on taking your reader. While the giant screen on a Kindle DX may be appealing, you may want something smaller if you need to store it in your bag while you travel. But if you are just planning on using it at home while you’re laid back on the couch, you may want the biggest screen you can find. If you plan on using yours for classes or for work, you want to get one that supports many different file types. Some readers only support a limited range and will not recognize widelyused file types such as PDFs.

If you are planning on using your new reader for utilitarian purposes such as class or work, you will want one that lasts you long enough. Having your reader die on you during class is essentially the same as not bringing your book with you. And if you are in the middle of working when the battery runs out, your performance could be in jeopardy. While some very fancy readers offer a lot of features, they may not have the battery life you need. For instance, the Kindle 2 is able to work for 4 days without a charge. Turn off WiFi and it is extended to about 2 weeks. While it may be an older model, that long life and lower price can be especially appealing to students.

If you do a little inward searching to determine which features you need, you will enter the market with a great deal more confidence. Always make sure that you are picking the right model for you and that you are not letting some clever marketing decide for you. Even though some models may have more features, they come with a bigger price tag and may not fit you perfectly. Choosing the best ebook reader for you means choosing the one that does everything you need, not always choosing the one with the coolest extras.
