Soon, subscribers will synchronize the latest copy of The New York Times and many other newspapers important worldwide for e-reader devices that are hitting the market this year.
The iLiad e-Reader and Sony Reader are bidding to be iPod of the literary world. Electronic readers may seem nothing new, we've been reading the text in PDA devices from the first iterations of the Palm Pilot and never taken off. James Joyce lose something on a small handheld while turning pages with a pencil. While the market for a new type of electronic display reading remains to be seen, the new E-reader devices promise to be different, thanks to a unique approach to display technology.
Instead of paper and ink Product e-Reader uses E-Ink a new display technology developed by E Ink Corporation. The display uses electrically charged microcapsules of ink. Each microcapsule is about the diameter of a human hair and can be positive or negative under this visible surface of the screen with black or white. Each microcapsule individual, you can even split to show the parties, both black and white for better resolution when necessary. The screen is so unique because they rely on their own light source so it is easier for the eyes to keep it in focus for long periods of time. In fact, many people think that the screen looks much as to see how smooth the ink on real paper. Besides being easier to see for prolonged periods is 90% more energy efficient than an LCD of an advantage key to the battery of mobile devices.
Two devices that use E-ink displays for reading are Sony Reader and the iLiad from iRex Technologies. The Sony Reader is about the size of a paperback novel thin layer and uses Memory Stick Sony's own memory or SD storage. The Iliad is a more reader large, the size of a Tablet PC. The iLiad has more features, like Wi-Fi and the ability to take more types of memory along with its own built in storage.
The intention of the Sony E-Reader goes beyond a simple handheld device using an innovative screen technology. Taking a page from the book Sony Connect Apple has created an online book service that sells thousands of electronic books in e-Reader. The iTunes of the literary world include a desktop client let you synchronize the device reader with the service online and receive subscriptions ordered books and magazines like The New York Times.
E-readers just begging for new E-Ink Display Corporation. E-Ink has already been developed that can reproduce full color moving images. While not designed to be quick refreshment that would be used for a television, E-ink screens are already being built in places where space and power are a premium. The device can connect to almost anything, including flexible substrates for displays that can literally wrap a flexible, foldable.
Variation available on the E-ink display in theory, could be added to the packages when they reach a threshold of low cost. Microsoft tried this in a limited version of one of its Xbox games to animated color E Ink display on the cover. Hopefully this will not become a common practice. The passage of breakfast cereals Store Grocery enough headache with its cartoon characters boldly colored. Tony the Tiger and the boys Crispy Rice greets you as you do not try to find something outside an Orwellian nightmare.
Whether or not E-Readers take off and become the new PDA remains to be seen. But E Ink has an intelligent screen technology their hands and definitely will be displayed in unexpected places in the coming years.
